MLA BURNS:
£12
MILLION IN FORGOTTEN BANK ACCOUNTS
SDLP Assembly Member Thomas Burns has urged people
in South Antrim to check for money they may have
lying in forgotten bank and building society
accounts.
Adding his voice to the General Consumer Council’s
campaign to raise awareness of lost bank accounts,
Mr Burns said:
“As much as £12 million is lying in long forgotten
bank and building society accounts. With the cost of
living spiralling ever upwards people need access to
all the money they have. Discovering a few extra
pounds you’d forgotten you had would be a great
help. It’s better for the money to be in your pocket
than in the bank’s large coffers.
“People can look for any forgotten accounts they
have by calling the Consumer Council’s banking team
on 08456016022 or by visiting the website:
www.mylostaccount.org.uk.
“I went online and found the process simple and easy
to follow and was amazed at just how quickly I
received a response.
“I would urge anyone thinking about it to give it a
go. You might receive a pleasant surprise.”
