SDLP MLA BURNS: DEMANDS ANSWERS OVER REPAIRS TO TOOME BYPASS
 

SDLP South Antrim MLA Thomas Burns has demanded a detailed explanation as to why the new Toome bypass requires substantial repairs so early in its lifespan.  

Mr Burns stated: “This announcement is marginally short of scandalous and merits a full explanation as to why major disruption will be foisted on people for a lengthy period of time as the tourist season begins. What kind of guarantees were sought and given by the contractors at the time of the roads construction? What efforts are being made to ensure that the public have got value for money and what future remedial work will be required?

The people of Toome are only beginning to enjoy a cleaner environment when they are told they will be plunged back into the kind of pollution that the people of Dungiven are still enduring day and daily. It is clear that a number of serious questions must be answered around this decision.”
