MLA BURNS:
AER LINGUS GAFFE NOT FAULT OF CUSTOMERS
SDLP South Antrim MLA Thomas Burns has said that Aer
Lingus may have to compensate passengers who booked
flights for £4 on the official website and then had
their tickets cancelled as the result of a mistake
on the airlines behalf.
Mr Burns stated: “Many people must have thought that
this was some kind of flight of fancy by Aer Lingus
and while the offer would seem too good to be true
it should never have been advertised on the
company’s website. There is a duty on companies to
ensure that the content of their websites and
advertising campaigns are accurate. Consumers cannot
be blamed for taking at face value offers which
appear on websites.
Aer Lingus say they will not compensate any
passengers who booked these flights. They should
realise that as a result of their error many people
may have made arrangements and plans based upon the
dates and times of these ‘cheap’ flights. For many
this would have involved the outlay of a significant
sum of money. Aer Lingus may have to rethink this
policy if a number of passengers have been left in
this position and out of pocket due to their
mistake.”
