MLA BURNS:
CRUMLIN GLEN PATH REOPENS
SDLP South Antrim MLA Thomas Burns has welcomed the
news that the Crumlin Glen link path, which allows
access to the walkways from Cidercourt Road, will
once again be open to the general public from 30
May.
The path had been closed for over one year while the
improvement works were taking place. The path has a
new hard surface, fences have been extended and a
new handrail has been built.
The SDLP representative also urged local residents
to use the glen ‘at every opportunity’ this summer
to send a clear message to Antrim Borough Council
that the financial outlay was ‘money well spent’ and
to encourage further investment.
Mr Burns commented, “I am delighted this project has
been completed in time for the summer. The glen is a
fantastic facility and is there to be enjoyed by
everyone. We have a wonderful countryside recreation
site right on our doorstep and I hope people will
take the time to make use of it. The riverside walk,
beside the waterfall, is something every Crumlin
resident should experience.”
He added, “The glen still remains a bit of a ‘hidden
gem’, but this new
access point close to Main Street and the centre of
the village should open it up to a lot more people.
I have worked very hard at Antrim Borough Council
and in the Assembly to get this project completed. I
am very pleased this next step has finally been
taken, but the glen is not a finished job. There is
still a lot of potential there. I would hope to see
a much improved picnic area, better seating,
enhanced waste disposal facilities and better access
for the disabled in future.”
