MLA BURNS:
WELCOMES CRUMLIN TRAFFIC CALMING MEASURES
SDLP South Antrim MLA Thomas Burns has welcomed the
completion of the traffic calming scheme in Crumlin,
saying residents would ‘be very happy’ to see the
new speed ramps and road markings. He also said he
hoped these measures would see the end of
‘boy-racers tearing along Main Street’.
He said, “I am delighted to see the completion of
these works. The new speed ramps will make a real
difference to road safety in town. The increasing
number of people living in Crumlin has obviously
resulted in a lot more traffic on Main Street,
particularly at peak times, and this had to be
addressed.
“In the morning and early evening we have a lot of
pedestrians in the area, particularly
schoolchildren, and their safety is paramount. These
new measures should make the area around Main Street
a lot more pedestrian friendly.”
The SDLP representative also commented that the
speed bumps were now required because of the
reckless behaviour of some individuals who were
driving dangerously in the village at night.
“Anti-social behaviour has been on the increase in
Crumlin and it has definitely been affecting the
quality of life of local people. I am have been
working very hard to resolve these problems at
Council and in the Assembly and I think the
acquisition of these traffic calming measures is a
good result.
“The new sleeping policemen should help control the
‘boy racers’ of Crumlin who seem to think they have
free reign to speed along Main Street at night when
there are few police around.”
